|britney spears biography
britney spears may have titled her new single "Me Against The Music," but she has rarely been more creatively in tune than she is right now. "I feel like I've hit a great new stride as an artist," she says with pride. "I've worked hard, and I feel like I've grown on so many levels."
In truth, "Me Against The Music" is hardly about declaring war against grooves. "Actually, it's about the intensity that people approach music with," britney spears shares. "It's about getting totally lost in the music and pushing yourself to the edge in every way you can imagine. I love thoroughly immersing myself in music, and I wanted to capture that intensity in a song."
britney spears's musical intensity and her evolution from a teen renegade into a provocative young woman are undeniable throughout "In The Zone," her fourth Jive Records collection. First and foremost, the project shows her flexing notably strong and mature songwriting muscles. She co-wrote 7 of the project's 12 sterling new compositions, collaborating with such heavy hitters as Red Zone ("Me Against The Music," "The Hook Up"), The Matrix ("Shadow"), Moby ("Early Mornin'"), and Cathy Dennis ("Toxic," "Showdown"). Also contributing hit worthy material to the album is R. Kelly ("Outrageous"), Ying-Yang Twins on "(I Got That) Boom Boom."
Perhaps most significant is the appearance of pop icon Madonna, who lends her voice to the single "Me Against The Music." Collaborating with one of her all-time greatest musical influences was a dream come true for britney spears. "The experience was beyond words or description." she says. The two forged what has become a powerful bond while rehearsing for their now-notorious performance on the MTV Video Music Awards this fall. "As we were working together, there were moments when I simply could not believe that I was standing there on stage next to her. It was never even in the realm of fantasy for me."
The musical union of britney spears and Madonna within the taut, classic-funk groove of "Me Against The Music" is quite real, though, and it reveals each of them at their most kinetic and soulful. The song's accompanying video clip, directed by Paul Hunter, shows Madonna enticing britney spears through a maze-like underground club, only to disappear into thin air when britney spears gets close enough to touch her. The clip is rife with symbolic gestures of Madonna passing the baton pop power to britney spears --- an image that the young artist finds exciting, humbling, and perhaps a bit premature.
"There is only one Madonna --- and there will always only be one," she says. "My goal is to have a career that is equally as special, but one that is completely unique to who I am. I'm honored by all that Madonna brought to this song. I really love the flow we share --- both on the track and as friends. I think you can feel the chemistry and positive energy we shared. It's completely natural and relaxed."
The natural and relaxed vibe of "Me Against The Music" is indicative of every note and beat comprises "In The Zone," an album that runs the stylistic gamut from streetwise hip-hop and electro-trance to new-wave-etched rock and well-crafted pop. From top to bottom, britney spears effectively expands the parameters of mainstream musical consciousness with songs that lure listeners with infectious hooks, and then captivates them with layers of clever lyrics and deft instrumentation.
"Putting this record together was an incredible journey for me," britney spears says. "I had the freedom to explore and experiment with some of the most exciting people in music. In the end, that allowed me to make a record that is a pure reflection of where I am right now."
What we learn from album highlights like the rambunctious "(I Got That) Boom Boom," which features the Ying Yang Twins, and "Everytime," a stark, delicate collaboration with Guy Sigsworth, is that britney spears has grown into a fearless artist. "Those songs are particularly special to me, because neither of them sounds like anything I've ever done before," she says. "'Boom Boom' is so rough and edgy and fun, while 'Everytime' is so raw and spare. It's me stripped to my core as a singer and as a songwriter. It's as honest as I've ever been in my music. I loved working with Guy on that track. He made me feel comfortable and safe enough to go the full distance, emotionally and as a performer." britney spears also has high praise for Moby, who worked with her on the mid-tempo "Early Mornin.'" "He's such a pure-hearted guy," she says. "He's so cool. He played me a really cool track, and I thought it was brilliant. It's turned out to be one of my favorite songs on the album."
She describes "Early Mornin,'" which unfolds with a deceptively insistent, easy-paced dance groove as a day-after-the-party jam, which balances some of the more assertive, dance floor-friendly cuts on "In The Zone." "Some songs are generally about going out and wanting to have a good time," she says. "One of the things I did while working on this album was write about a lot things like going out with my girlfriends, everyday experiences that I was going through. 'Early Morning' is about just going out and feeling bad the next day." Elsewhere on "In The Zone," britney spears shows her sultry side, particularly on the steamy, turntable-ready "Breathe On Me," a Mark Taylor production that she characterizes as being "very vibe-y, trance-y. It's about being with a guy and not even having to really be with each other, but just the intensity and the anxiety between not saying anything. You don't even have to touch me, just breathe on me."
Among the more sensual songs on the album is "Touch of My Hand," on which britney spears seductively floats her voice atop an arrangement of pillowy strings and languid, Middle-Eastern-kissed guitar lines. "It's tastefully done," she says of the track. "And I think it's real. It's nice and it's real. It's whatever your take is. Some people may think it's a little much, but that's where I'm at with my life. ... It's not freaky freaky, it's just a little freaky." Stepping out on a creative limb has been the basis for britney spears's entire career. Dubbed by MTV as "one of the last teenage pop superstars of the 20th century," britney spears enjoyed her breakthrough success at the end of 1998. She appeared in local dance revues and church choirs as a young girl, and at the age of eight auditioned for The Mickey Mouse Club. Although she was too young to join the series, a producer on the show gave her an introduction to a New York agent. She subsequently spent three summers at the Professional Performing Arts School Center. She also appeared in a number of off-Broadway productions as a child actor, including 1991's "Ruthless." She returned to the Disney Channel for a spot on The Mickey Mouse Club, where she was featured for two years between the ages of 11 and 13. Her demo tape eventually landed in the hands of a Jive Records executive who quickly signed her to the label. She toured American venues for a series of concerts sponsored by U.S. teen magazines, eventually joining "N Sync on tour. It all added up to 1999's wildly infectious "...Baby One More Time" album to make its bow on the charts at No. 1. The set not only spawned a smash hit with the title tune, but also scored with the charming ballad "Sometimes" and the funky "(You Drive Me) Crazy." Before the album finished its impressive worldwide attack of the charts, it garnered britney spears 4 MTV Europe Awards, including best pop performer, and 4 Billboard Music Awards, most notably female artist of the year.
The massive demand for new britney spears material was satisfied when her 2000 sophomore collection, "Oops! ... I Did It Again," was released to a britney spears-starved world in May. Once again, the title cut flooded radio airwaves, as did the anthemic "Stronger" and lovely "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know." She also racked up more awards that year by taking home an American Music Award as favorite new artist, a Billboard Music Award as album artist of the year, and 2 Teen Choice Awards. britney spears would later earn Teen Choice Award honors in 2001 and 2003. Ever-prolific, the artist returned in 2001 with "britney spears," a spirited, assertive collection on which she began to reveal her mettle as a tunesmith, not to mention as a vocalist of increasingly soulful depth. She earned high praise for the wickedly sultry "Slave 4 U," as well as for the forceful "Overprotected" and the gentle "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman." The album's was quickly followed by britney spears's motion picture debut, "Crossroads," which proved that she has the talent and box-office pull to be a multifaceted superstar. "One of the true joys of my life and career has been trying out new things," britney spears says. "I've loved every step of this journey I'm on. I love singing and dancing and acting and songwriting... it all energizes and inspires me." It's that philosophy that has sent britney spears "In The Zone," a project that shows this ever-growing and ever-exciting at her absolute best... or as she would say, "for now." "I can't imagine ever reaching the point where I've hit the wall," she concludes. "There's always something new and challenging to tackle. I can't wait to see what happens next."
britney spears was born December 2, 1981 in Kentwood Louisiana and has grown to become the most popular celebrity on the planet. According to her mom, Lynne, britney spears was a very sweet and lovable baby. She started talking early and she also started showing her talent! Lynne says that as soon as britney spears got to her feet for her first toddling steps, she became interested in music. Little britney spears learned to dance as soon as she was steady on her feet, and her love of music helped her learn her steps. She studied at the prestigious Off-Broadway Dance Center and at the Professional Performing Arts School. During this time in her life, britney spears's face became familiar to the public, even if her name wasn't. She appeared in several national commercials. She also was a part of some Off-Broadway productions including 1991's Ruthless, based on the 1956 thriller The Bad Seed. britney spears says she enjoyed playing an evil child...that it was a lot of fun! When britney spears turned 11, she was finally old enough to don a pair of ears and become part of the "Mickey Mouse Club. She was part of the club for the next two years; singing, dancing and acting with the troupe on the popular TV Show. After the program folded, britney spears returned to her hometown to go to school for a year like any high school freshman. But she quickly tired of that, and missed traveling and performing. Truly, britney spears got a big break with the Micky Mouse Club when she was 11, where she first met her friends from 'N Sync, Justin Timberlake and Joshua Chasez (JC).
As you know, lots of Hollywood talk is going round about britney spears & Justin gettin busy with each other. For the record, britney spears has said in several interviews that she and Justin have kissed, but that they are not boyfriend and girlfriend. She's also said that she is still a virgin and plans on remaining pure until marriage. She told Howard Stern in an interview that she consulted a psychic who predicted she'd marry at the age of 23 to an older man with dark hair, which would seem to count out Justin. She did contradict these claims though during a recent press conferance in which she said her favorite position was "on top" [well, maybe she didn't mean sex, but on the album charts!] This speculation has seemed to overshadow her 2nd album release. Another issue that is constantly debated are britney spears's boobs. In fact, in a recent appearance hosting Saturday Night Live, she parodied that very claim by having mechanical, gyrating hooters, it was quite a site! In any event, it is abstracts.net's opinion that britney spears's breasts are the real deal. Several pictures that have chronicaled her knee rehab seem unlikely to be staged and despite the fact that she does look less endowed in BOMT, she was and is still growing, and you cannot discount the effectiveness of push up bras and bra inserts. Besides, the girls just a musician, not a porn star! For now, there is endless speculation going either way as to who britney spears is involved with as tabloids say one thing one day and britney spears's reps say the opposite the next day. Also, there seems to be a lot of fantasy scenarios and rumors of britney spears posing nude or being naked in a movie, we doubt this will happen anytime soon, as it could have a negative effect on her career at this age. That's not to say she won't be in a movie, she's said that after touring for her 2nd album she may explore opportunities in film, including a spot in Grease 3.
britney spears's childhood was very calm, but her mother used to see britney spears dancing and singing in front of the tv. Every sunday morning, britney spears used to go with her parents to the Spring Creek Missionary Church where she loved to sing. Then her parents realize that they have to put britney in school dance to improve her dance skills. She also practiced gym and ballet. When she was eight, her mother decided to take britney to an auditon for the "Mickey Mouse Club". Even with the talent that she had, britney was too young to participate in that tv show. Lynn (britney spears's mother), adviced by one of the producers of the show, decided to go to New York to find britney, an agent. During 3 years she took class at the "professional Performing Arts School". At the age of ten, she saw herself in a play called "Ruthless". Six months later she came back to Kentwood and goes to a tv show called "Star Search". At the age of eleven she presents herself again at the auditons for the "Mickey Mouse Club" and she was one of the lucky kids who went to florida, orlando to make the tv show. There she meets Justin Timberlake, Christina Aguilera and J.C. Chasez. But in 1994 the "Mickey Mouse Club" was canceled and she returned to Kentwood. when she was 15, she realized that all that she wanted to do was singing. She contacted her agent and he told her that she could record on or two songs that she liked and mail them to him. One of the tapes "stopped" at Jive Records so she went again to New York because Jive wanted to hear her! When she comes back to Kentwood, the only thing that she had time to do was her bag. She went for 10 days to Sweden to record her first album "Baby one more time" with Max Martin. Spring 1998, britney starts to dance and sing two songs of her album in malls. When her first single comes out on the 3rd of november 1998, she is already famous. Her first video clip, which became a legend, had a huge success in the world. That's when the little girl from louisiana becomes a star. Her first album sold 2 million copies, and she became a teenager idole. She had more hits like "Crazy", "Sometimes". In 2000 she records her second album, and in 16 may 2000 the album "Ooops!...I did it gain" comes out (the album sold 16 million copies), the album contains hits like "Ooops"..I did it again", "Stronger", "Lucky". In that same year, britney spears says to "Elle" magazine that she have a relationship with Justin Timberlake. She starts to record her third album in february 2001, which turn out to be very different from the last 2 albums. She had the colaboration of Dido in "I'm not a girl, not yet a woman". The first single released from this album was "Slave 4u". In 2002, britney spears appears for the first time in a movie! "Crossroads" was the name of her first movie. That same year, britney spears and Justin break up. After the break up, britney spears doesn't stop working and make an appearance in the third movie of Austin Powers. After that britney take some time out to record her fourth album "In the zone". In this album britney had the colaboration of P.Diddy. R.Kelly, Moby, Madonna. The first single of this new album in "Me against the music" which features Madonna. Her music is very sexy, sensual on this album and contains lyrics that nobody could think that the innocent britney spears could use. She built a all new image of herself (the famous kiss of Madonna and britney spears). Now, ske is a lot more mature, she is a woman and she talks about sex in almost all of her songs!!! But one of the songs seems to be dedicated to her ex, Justin ("Everytime").
britney spears was born on December 2nd, 1981, in Kentwood, Louisiana. She always knew she wanted to pursue a musical career and took her talents to her local church, where she sang with the choir. She even sang on national television, as a Star Search contestant.
At the age of 8, britney spears auditioned for the popular children's variety show, The New Mickey Mouse Club, but was refused because of her young age. Luckily for britney spears, one of the show's producers saw the young singer's talent and helped her find an agent in New York City.
britney spears spent the next three summers in New York, where she studied at the famous Off Broadway Dance Center and at the Professional Performing Arts School. To add to the formation of a future international star, britney spears appeared in commercials and off-Broadway shows, one of which showcased britney spears as an innocent 10-year-old with a "bad girl" edge.
Three years after her first Mickey Mouse Club rejection, britney spears finally landed a spot as a "Mouseketeer" at the age of 11. Joining a cast of talented teens on the show, britney spears showed off her acting, dancing and singing talents on the show that also spawned the careers of fellow beauties Keri Russell and Christina Aguilera.
After two years of living in Orlando with her family while doing the show, britney spears moved back home to Kentwood after the show was canceled and returned to high school.
Her one normal year as a 14-year-old high school student would be the last bit of normalcy in britney spears's life. With a dream of pursuing a career as a singer and a desire to leave her small hometown, britney spears set off to New York City yet again, this time destined to sign with a major record label.
britney spears finally signed with Jive Records, after an executive was fully impressed with the talent he heard on the demo tape. Working with Eric Foster White, a producer who had previously worked with artists such as Boyzone and Whitney Houston, britney spears's debut album was finally ready for its January 12th, 1999 release date.
...Baby One More Time spawned such hits as "Crazy," "Sometimes" and of course the title track, the infectious "...[Hit Me] Baby, One More Time." The album held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard charts, was certified RIAA 12 times platinum (it has gone on to sell more than 20 million copies), and won britney spears awards such as the 1999 MTV Europe Awards for Best Female Artist, Best Pop Artist and Best Breakthrough Artist.
Between the release of her smash debut and the recording of her second album, britney spears co-wrote a book with mom Lynne Spears, entitled Heart to Heart, and went on an extensive worldwide tour.
A huge Mariah Carey, Michael Jackson and Madonna fan, britney spears was scrutinized by the media early on, with reports of a breast augmentation and a love affair with England's most eligible bachelor, Prince William.
With the britney spears hype nowhere near over, she returned to the music scene in 2000 with her follow-up album, entitled Oops!...I Did It Again. With a hit video accompanying the hit title track (in which Miss britney spears definitely did it again, this time in a red latex catsuit), a second worldwide tour in support of her album, and millions of fans, britney spears accomplished what few artists ever accomplish, at the mere age of 18.
Oops!...I Did It Again spawned hit singles like "Lucky," "Stronger" (with an accompanying video that features her performing a lap dance to a chair) and "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know."
2001 was a banner year for the pop star, as she co-hosted the American Music Awards with L.L. Cool J; performed at the Rock in Rio festival (where audiences got a real glimpse of what she sounds like offstage -- and we don't mean her singing voice); performed with Aerosmith, 'N Sync, Nelly, and Mary J. Blige at the Super Bowl; appeared on a spoken-word CD of the Pope's prayers; and signed a multimillion-dollar endorsement deal with Pepsi.
While she danced with factory workers in a warehouse, impressing even Viagra-enhanced Bob Dole and his dog, Christina Aguilera starred in a Coca-Cola commercial, fueling more than just a soda pop war.
The mystery of her sudden physical maturity is still unsolved, but there are two rumors we can dispel: britney spears was not cuddling up to Prince William, but rather a prince of pop, former 'N Sync singer Justin Timberlake. After their breakup and Justin's constant on-the-record interviews in which he stated that he and britney spears did have sex, britney spears finally admitted that she did in fact sleep with Justin (and added it was because she thought she would marry him).
And another rumor that was certainly not true is the one claiming that britney spears and Justin were killed in a car crash in Los Angeles in 2001; it was just a prank courtesy of two radio personalities at Dallas radio station KEGL, who were later fired.
In 2001, the hardworking singer released her third and self-titled album, which spawned hits like "Overprotected," "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman" and "Slave 4 U."
As if CDs, sold-out concerts, books (her second co-written book with her mother was released in April 2001, entitled A Mother's Gift), and a huge endorsement deal weren't enough, britney spears starred in her first feature film, Crossroads in 2002 (although her only award win came from the Razzie Awards for Worst Actress), starred as host and performer on Saturday Night Live (in February 2002), had a cameo in Austin Powers in Goldmember, and even entered the restaurant industry with her own establishment, Nyla (which stands for her two favorite places, "NY" for New York and "LA" for her home state of Louisiana -- the restaurant has since closed).
But britney spears's personal life was continuing to make headlines. After her public breakup with now solo singer Justin Timberlake in 2002 (after his song and video "Cry Me River," it seems like Brit cheated on him), the once chaste Miss britney spears was making the tabloids and entertainment news shows for her heavy partying and rebellious lifestyle.
She even appeared at a movie premiere with bad boy Colin Farrell, and her many tattoos and confirmation that Justin indeed did have sex with britney spears only added fuel to the fire. Throw in a nearly naked performance at the 2000 MTV Video Music Awards, a performance with caged animals and a snake at the following year's VMAs, and a very erotic video for the aforementioned "Slave 4 U," and it seemed like britney spears was far from the good girl she once promoted herself to be.
But the saga continued. A few months before the release of her fourth album, In The Zone, britney spears shocked audiences yet again at the VMAs, this time in a remixed rendition of Madonna's "Like A Virgin" and "Hollywood." Along with Christina Aguilera and dressed like a prostitute/bride, britney spears kissed Madonna in one of the most memorable -- and scandalous -- moments of the year. The publicity surely helped and it seemed Madonna really meant it when she said she was a britney spears fan, as the Material Girl appeared on the first single off In The Zone, "Me Against the Music," and co-starred in the video. In The Zone was released in November 2003, and debuted at No. 1 with more than 609,000 copies sold in its first week of release. That same month, britney spears received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
But the stunt that really took the cake was britney spears's quickie marriage to childhood pal, Jason Allen Alexander (not of Seinfeld fame). She and Alexander exchanged vows at a Las Vegas chapel, after a night of drinking. The marriage was annulled 55 hours later, although they're apparently still friends.
While the second single off In The Zone, "Toxic," is proving to be another hit for britney spears, she is co-starring in a Gladiator-style Pepsi commercial with Beyonce, Pink and Enrique Iglesias. It's clear that whatever britney spears does, she continues to rock us.
Despite the failure of Crossroads, we haven't seen the last of britney spears on the big screen: she has two comedies in the works, In the Pink and Door to Door.
On the personal front, britney spears is dating/engaged to/married to (no one knows the details for certain) her former back-up dancer Kevin Federline. They apparently got married on September 18, 2004, but word has it that it was a staged wedding and the pair are not actually husband and wife.
britney spears is a cultural phenomenon. Though there have been pop music princesses before her, none have had the impact, success and influence that she does (though the Spice Girls gave it a good shot before imploding spectacularly).
britney spears was destined to be in showbiz, but few could have predicted the impact that the former Mickey Mouse Club member would have. From Africa to Asia, her posters, albums, and style can be seen in almost every teenage girl's bedroom.
She has spawned a new era in music in which the audience consists mostly of tween and teen girls. They strive to be her, and though we admire her success and are in awe of her spectacular figure, it's more image than substance -- and what a fantastic image it is. There will be books written about the "britney spears phenomenon." It's hard to imagine such a successful, rich and famous person being born after Ronald Reagan took office.
Her record label, Jive, recognized that sex sells and created a brilliant marketing plan that has tapped into American pop culture. From innocent girl to sexy vixen, britney spears's image drips with sexual connotations, flirting with us, mocking us, teasing us, and leaving us wanting more.
Although image is a huge part of her success, she does have catchy songs, even though her voice isn't that remarkable. Even Madonna counts herself as a fan, not to mention friend and kissing partner. No one can discount the fact that this girl's got what it takes to make it big.
If you don't like britney spears's singing or dancing skills, admit this: britney spears is a businesswoman (or at least she's smart enough to listen to her posse of managers). Her voice is weak, especially in comparison to Christina Aguilera , which is why she is notorious for lip-syncing every performance. But hey, when you have the right look, the right people writing your songs, and you release albums at the right time, you can win over the public. Besides, who said the music industry was really about talent ?
As for her personality, Brit is far removed from the virginal, squeaky-clean image she once tried so hard to uphold. From the moment she hit the scene in 1999 with her "Catholic schoolgirl" look in the video for "...Baby One More Time," we all knew what she was really about, even though she preached abstinence. One minute she was talking about the importance of "saving herself," the next minute she was gyrating onstage, humping a chair, or sweating and panting while in the middle of what looked like an orgy in the video for "Slave 4 U."
Well, long gone are the days of us trying to figure out what britney spears's really about, as today the headlines usually associated with britney spears involve partying, drinking, Colin Farrell , occasional drugs, quickie marriages, lesbian kisses, and tattoos (she's on her fifth). Yup, she gave up that "I'm a virgin" spiel ages ago.
One of the best examples of britney spears's true private side was revealed during the famous "Rio Rant," in which britney spears was caught cursing and insulting people on tape before going on stage for the Rock in Rio festival in Rio de Janeiro.
We don't mind the stories, in fact we embrace them, because they give britney spears that sprinkle of reality she seems to be missing.
That said, we genuinely like britney spears. She's sexy, young, energetic, and pretty easy on the eyes -- to say the least.
There is no denying britney spears' sex appeal. The video for "...Baby One More Time," in which britney spears is dressed like a Lolita in a private school uniform -- pigtails, knee-highs and all -- launched her rise to the stratosphere of popdom . That imagery can easily be categorized under men's "Catholic schoolgirl" fantasies.
The Louisiana born beauty has innate sex appeal. Although her "natural" assets are often in question, Miss britney spears was born with an undeniable gift: an aura of sex that just oozes out of her every bronzed pore. It may have all started with her "...Baby One More Time" video, but thanks to her red latex catsuit in the video for "Oops!...I Did It Again," her chair-humping antics in "Stronger," her very revealing bikini in "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know," her sweaty panting in "Slave 4 U," and her dance moves with leather-clad dominatrix Madonna in "Me Against The Music," britney spears has never been one to deny that sex sells.
britney spears' record sales are already high enough to make her eligible for the music Hall of Fame. britney spears has sold well over 20 million records worldwide, and she even made history as the youngest female artist in Billboard history to have her debut single and debut album ( ...Baby One More Time ) top the charts in the same week. At 18 years old, she had another No. 1 album on her hands, Oops!...I Did It Again , which spawned hit singles like "Stronger" and "Don't Let Me Be The Last To Know."
In late 2000, britney spears caused a stir at the MTV Video Music Awards when she performed in a flesh-colored outfit that showed a whole new britney spears -- breasts, six-pack and all. Not taking a break, she released britney spears in 2001, and shocked audiences with the provocative video for "Slave 4 U." But audiences caught a glimpse of what was to come in the video when she performed the song at 2001's VMAs with a snake around her neck and caged animals onstage, which enraged PETA. Now simply known as britney spears, the pop star's eponymous album hit the charts with singles like "Overprotected" and "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman."
Though she doesn't have a Grammy under her belt, britney spears's most prestigious award wins came at the 1999 Billboard Awards, where she won the awards for Female Artist of the Year and New Artist of the Year. Her mantle is also adorned with the following trophies: Choice Music Single "...Baby One More Time" at the 1999 Teen Choice Awards, Artist of the Year for "Oops!...I Did It Again" at the 2000 Billboard Awards, Best New Artist at the 2000 American Music Awards, and Choice Hottie Female and Choice Female Artist at the 2000 Teen Choice Awards (she won the same two awards in 2002) -- and these are only from awards shows in the United States. britney spears has also won trophies in Canada and Europe, underscoring her status as an international star.
Trying her luck on the big screen, britney spears starred in 2002's Crossroads , along with actress-singer Taryn Manning . Unfortunately, it showcased britney spears's physical assets more than her acting range, and the movie bombed. But britney spears bounced back the following year, with the album In The Zone . The album debuted at No. 1 with more than 600,000 copies sold in its first week and with hits like "Me Against The Music" (featuring Madonna) and "Toxic," it's clear that britney spears has another hit album on her hands.
Publicity certainly hasn't hurt this starlet: in 2003, britney spears made headlines after showing up at a premiere with bad boy Colin Farrell (she and Justin had a public breakup, with rumors circulating that she cheated on him) and kissing Madonna at the MTV Video Music Awards during a performance of "Like A Virgin/Hollywood."
On January 3rd, 2004, she pulled the biggest publicity stunt of them all by marrying childhood friend Jason Allen Alexander after a night of drinking and partying in Vegas. The bride wore ripped jeans and a Von Dutch cap to the chapel, and to nobody's surprise, the wedding was annulled some 55 hours later.
Several nearly nude magazine covers and an interview with Diane Sawyer in which britney spears said her song about masturbation (called "Touch of My Hand") was "sacred" certainly didn't help her innocent image, and it seems that some of the headlines she now attracts have to do with britney spears "spiraling out of control."
On September 18, 2004, it was back to the altar for britney spears... well, sort of. News broke that britney spears and boyfriend Kevin Federline (he was a former back-up dancer of hers) tied the knot in a "surprise wedding," and that Brit did indeed get Kevin to sign a prenup. Now word has it that the wedding was fake and that britney spears was only diverting the paparazzi. Stay tuned. We can't wait to see what she does next.
The big question here is obvious: does britney spears have implants or not? She cries when she's asked, and blames her sudden "growth" on maturing and weight gain, but how can she explain their perfect perkiness? Readers always e-mail AskMen.com wanting to know the truth, and in our opinion, yes, she does have implants.
As much as we'd like to believe that she grew into her C-cup, the swiftness of her breasts' appearance, along with the kind of support they seem to have, have us convinced that someone with a Ph.D. had something to do with her development.
Her use of hair extensions is also off-putting, but now we're just being picky. Between her tight six-pack, amazing behind, muscular legs, sexy lips, and puppy dog eyes, we don't care -- she could convince us of anything with one bat of her eyelashes.
Mr. Blackwell (the fashion critic who comes out with his annual Best & Worst Dressed List) hates britney spears' style. He thinks that unless she changes, she will be headed to his Hall of Fame. We think he is a little loco . She isn't a glamour queen and her outfits sometimes push the envelope of good taste and class, but she is a young woman with a great body and she should show it off.
Her outfits usually have holes that reveal her pierced navel and plenty of cleavage. Lately she has adopted an older look, which appeals to an older audience, but we prefer when she dresses (and acts) like a rich prostitute.
